The footbridge section of this Scalextric-esque mini Spaghetti Junction is cannily placed in a direct line with the Melkweg-road, which gives a clear line of sight into the neighbourhood. It’s 12 metres high at its peak, but the legwork required to get up there is well rewarded with some great views...

Envelope Wallet

7/11/2013

This authentic-looking Air Mail envelope is, in fact, a wallet made from Tyvek®, folded in origami fashion to create two interior pockets and space for credit cards and business cards. Part of a range of novelty wallets by Mighty Wallets, it’s water resistant, recyclable, and impervious to tears—and, to boot, doubles as writing surface for those moments when paper isn’t readily available. The ideal wallet when wanderlust strikes, we say.

First Aid Help

7/9/2013

An emergency situation calls for calm and collected nerves along with timely response. In the case of an unconscious victim, many people are truly clueless as to how they can help the person. For such situations we have here the First Aid Cover. This textile blanket with printed information graphics clearly shows you how to proceed with first aid. Basics like recovery position to CPR steps are printed. Both professionals and untrained people can use this cover at the time of need.

Description from designer Bercy Chen Studio

Edgeland Residence is located on a rehabilitated brownfield site and is a modern re-interpretation of one of the oldest housing typologies in North America, the Native American Pit House. The Pit House, typically sunken, takes advantage of the earth’s mass to maintain thermal comfort throughout the year.

Like this timeless dwelling, Edgeland Residence’s relationship to the landscape both in terms of approach as well as building performance involves an insulative green roof and a 7-foot excavation – gaining benefits from the earth’s mass to help it stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Such an architectural setting presents an opportunity for maximum energy efficiency when combined with high performance systems such as the integrated hydronic HVAC system.
The mechanical system combines: hydronic heating & cooling, geothermal heat exchange, phase-change thermal heat storage and a green roof for maximum energy efficiency. The project also features a smart pool that provides an additional thermal mass that ties into the geothermal system.

Description from designer Antoni Associates

The clients brief was to completely strip out the double-level apartment and to re-configure the interior layout to accommodate four bedrooms, en-suite, a gym, entertainment cocktail bar, cinema room and wine cellar. The site is perched over dramatic boulders and the Atlantic Ocean and experiences sweeping views of the Clifton beaches as well as the Twelve Apostles mountain range.
Access is gained to the apartment on the upper level. The dining room, living room and kitchen are open plan and have direct access to the extensive terrace. The open plan dining area acts as a pivotal focal point between the spiral staircase and the main entertainment space. The success of the space is a culmination of bespoke detailing, unexpected stylistic juxtapositions and dramatic artworks.

Moving through the apartment is a journey of styles and ideas that all fuse together to make the apartment a tailored and personally nuanced space. This tailored look was achieved by avoiding over use of recognizable brand names; the clients instead were keen to create one off signature pieces through the OKHA Design Studio. A feature spiral stair was introduced to link the two levels of the apartment. Feature timber screens extend from the upper level through the upper volume to contain this circulation space. The pool bar leads onto the swimming pool and spa terrace with uninterrupted views of the seascape. The infinity pool allows the eye to flow from the pool to the expanse of the Atlantic Ocean.

From designer WON SUK LEE, The idea behind the Almighty Laundry washing machine is that single men are usually busy executives with laundry as the least of their worries. So much so that it gets ignored most of the time. So what this machine tries to do, is cut down a few steps in the washing process so that you can just load in a rack full of stale, stinky shirts and bring out a lineup of fresh no-ironing needed stack!

Amazing idea; separate compartments for the boxer shorts, socks and towels have been considered. What I really like is the unconventional form of the machine; a rectangular closet-style rack that fits in tight spaces. So mister designer, what will your take be for a single woman? We can be busy executives too!
